Although Bali is far removed from the current tensions in the Middle East, global events often influence travel patterns and property markets in ways that aren’t always immediately obvious.
Over the past week, there has been increasing discussion across the island about how the situation may be affecting travellers, particularly those moving through major transit hubs such as Doha and Dubai, which many visitors rely on when flying to and from Europe. With some uncertainty around these routes, a number of travellers currently in Bali appear to be delaying their onward journeys while they wait for clearer travel options.
Because of this, there’s been growing talk locally that some visitors may end up extending their stays, at least in the short term. Naturally, that tends to create more interest in short and medium-term rentals, particularly in areas popular with international visitors such as Uluwatu, Canggu and Pererenan.
Looking slightly further ahead, periods of global uncertainty can also influence where international investors decide to place capital. For many years, cities such as Dubai have often been described as a “safe haven” for property investment, attracting buyers looking for stable markets outside Europe.
When uncertainty arises in any region, investors often begin reassessing where they feel most comfortable making long-term investments. In those moments, destinations with strong tourism demand and established international communities - like Bali - often remain part of the conversation.
Of course, it’s still very early to say whether these dynamics will have any lasting effect on Bali’s property market. But it does highlight how closely connected global travel, investment and real estate markets have become.
For now, the main shift being discussed locally is fairly simple: some travellers are staying longer than planned, and that’s naturally creating more interest in flexible rental options across the island.
